Seventeen insurgents were killed and 16 were arrested during a series of coordinated operations over the past 24 hours carried out by the Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS), the Afghan Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Monday.
"In past 24 hours, Afghan National Police conducted several anti-terrorism joint operations with Afghan National Army and NDS to clean some areas of terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan," the statement said.
The operations were conducted in Nangarhar, Laghman, Zabul, Maidan Wardak, Khost, Paktika and Helmand provinces.
"Also, during these operations, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated light and heavy rounds ammunition and IEDs," the statement said. It did not report any casualties amongst the Afghan forces or civilians.
The statement did not provide details about Afghan forces casualties during the raids.
The Taliban has not yet commented on the casualties.
There are over 350,000 Afghan soldiers serving at the moment. Foreign troops are due to leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014, after handing over full security responsibility to the Afghan forces.
