The Hezb-e-Islami Party officials have rejected reports regarding Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s instructions to his party members to participate in the forthcoming presidential and provincial council elections.

Ghairat Baheer, spokesman and head of the political affairs of Hezb-e-Islami party of Afghanistan, said they have not taken a final decision in this regard so far.
Mr. Baheer rejected media reports regarding Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s letter and said, Hezb-e-Islami party will review the situation carefully and will take a final decision regarding participation in the upcoming elections.
Baheer quoted by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RFL) said, negotiations regarding the party’s participation in presidential and provincial council elections, are in process but final decision has not been taken yet.
This comes a Pakistani newspaper reported that Hezb-e-Islami party leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar has asked his party members to participate in the upcoming presidential elections.
“Convey to Hizb-e-Islami members to take part in the provincial councils’ elections and support those candidates who are either related to us or have a positive view about the party,” Hekmatyar said in the letter which was obtained by Tribune Express.
Hekmatyar in his letter which was forwarded to Hezb-e-Islami leaders in all 34 provinces said, “Defeat and prevent bad people from entering the assemblies.”
“Hizb-e-Islami is not directly taking part in the elections due to the presence of occupation forces but will exercise the right of vote to get those candidates elected who are close to our party and ideology,” Hekmatyar added.
