At least five Taliban insurgents were killed in an attack on an Afghan National Army outpost in the eastern Nuristan province Friday night, local officials said.
Two other Taliban insurgents were injured and another was captured.
The attack took place last night in Kamdish district of Nuristan, when several Taliban insurgents attacked the soldiers' outpost, said Noman Atifi, spokesman for the Selab 201 military corps in eastern Afghanistan.
"Clashes continued for several hours and the insurgents left behind the bodies of two of their dead," he said.
There were no military or civilian casualties during the attack, he added.
It comes as several Taliban insurgents attacked the Du-Aab district of the province last week, injuring the district police chief and four other police officers.
Kamdish district borders with Pakistan and is insecure. Insurgents frequently target local troops in the province.
