Six Afghan staffers of the French Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) were shot dead by militants on Wednesday in northern Faryab province, local officials said.
The incident took place in Pashtun Kot District while the aid workers were traveling from Almar District, reported Provincial Police Chief Nabi Jan Mullahkil.
Another ACTED staff-member was injured in the incident, Mullahkil said.
He said they were dragged from their car in Pashtun Kot, which borders Turkmenistan, and were then executed.
ACTED, a Paris based development organization, released a statement after the killing.
"Six Afghan employees were killed following an ambush that targeted a team of seven people," it said. "They were killed in the course of their work to support the development in the north. We deplore the deaths of our colleagues while they were carrying out their duties."
ACTED does development work in 31 countries. And it began its work in Afghanistan in 1993.
