The state-owned electricity company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) on Wednesday announced that consumers from Kabul city can now pay their electricity bills using mobile phones. DABS has started the mobile payment facility in Kabul city starting Wednesday.

The officials of the DABS said, the entire mobile payment system has been made in collaboration with Etisalat. By availing this facility, more than 100 thousand electricity consumers in Kabul city can pay their electricity bills through mobile phones.

The 'Pay Electricity Bills Through Mobile Phone' project is being implemented in coordination with Pashtani Bank and Etisalat Enterprise. The bill payer will not be charged any money for making payments through mobile phone, according to the officials.

"Previously, we were promoting this facility through paper bills but now the bills are being sent via mobiles phones. People can now get their bill details and make payments all by means of a mobile phone," Abdul Razaq Samadi Director of Breshna Enterprise said.

Ali Asgharzada Chairman of Etisalat said, "We have distributed about 100 thousand SIM cards and within the upcoming months we will distribute 200 thousand more. We will make sure that everybody has access to a mobile phone."

"The new method is in addition to the current facility in which the customers were paying their electricity bills at the bank. Now they will do it using mobile phones," Ahmad Shah Zamanzai, Chairperson for Pashtany Bank said.

The officials of Breshna said that this facility will be implemented in other provinces such as Herat, Balkh, Nangarhar and Kundoz within few months.
