The Attorney General of Afghanistan on Thursday issued an interrogation order for the son of Afghan Army Chief, General Sher Mohammad Karimi.
Attorney General's Spokesman, Basir Azizi told TOLOnews that the Attorney General recently ordered the Military Attorney General to interrogate the police officer (victim) and Karimi's son about the Sunday night's fight in the Pol-e-Mahmud Khan area of Kabul city.
"When the Afghan Attorney General came to know that the Army Chief of Staff's son beat up a police officer with the help of 10 army soldiers while the officer was on duty; ordered the military Attorney General to interrogate the police officer and the son. After the interrogation we will inform the media about the outcome," Attorney General's Spokesman, Basir Azizi told TOLOnews.
On the other hand, in a telephonic conversation with TOLOnews, General Sher Mohammad Karimi rejected the allegations, saying his son was not involved in the incident
The development comes in after it was alleged that the son of the Afghan Army Chief of Staff, General Sher Mohammad Karimi, beat up an Afghan Police officer in Kabul on Sunday night.
The incident took place in the Pul-e-Mohmoud Khan area of Kabul city. The police officer, Mohammad Kabir, claimed that he was beaten when he tried to stop the car of Karimi's son at a checkpoint for search.
The police officer said that Karimi's son was not letting the police search his car; instead called the Afghan National Army soldiers and got him beaten up by 10 army soldiers.
This incident has raised waves of reactions from all across the country.
The Afghan Parliament called for a serious investigation of the incident by the Parliamentary Committee of Defence.
"We want to get the incident investigated by the Parliamentary Committee of Defence and want to see what progress is made in finding out the truth," MP, Shakiba Hashimi said.
"Misuse of government positions has become a culture and we should take serious action against such activities," MP, Ali Ahmad Akhlaqi said.
The Afghan Interior Ministry has ordered the authorities to investigate the matter.
"Well a mistake happened, but according to the Afghan Constitution, this issue will be investigated and solved," said Siddiq Siddiqi, the Interior Ministry Spokesman.
A number of Kabul residents condemned the incident and sought punishment for the guilty.
"If Karimi's son is so brave then why is he not fighting against the country's enemies? He has no right to beat a police officer," a Kabul resident said.
