The Afghan President Hamid Karzai will visit Turkmenistan for the inauguration ceremony of the joint railway project of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
The railway project between the countries will be inaugurated soon, according to President Karzai's office.
"On Sunday, President Karzai met the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov. The Turkmenistan Foreign Minister has handed over to President Karzai, an invitation from the President of Turkmenistan, requesting him to visit Turkmenistan for the inauguration ceremony of the joint railway project," Karzai's office said in a statement.
"Accepting the invitation, President Karzai called the railway project good not only for the welfare of the three countries but also to be in the best interest for the region," the statement said.
"President Karzai thanked Turkmenistan for its assistance and cooperation in the past ten years," it said.
The Presidents of Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of a railway line linking the three countries.
Hamid Karzai (President of Afghanistan), Emomali Rahmon (President of Tajikistan) and Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov (President of Turkmenistan) have signed the MoU on March 20 in the Turkmen capital, Ashgabat.
The 400-kilometer rail project will connect the Afghan town of Akina-Andkhoy to Atamurat Ymamnazar in Turkmenistan and Pyandzh in Tajikistan.
The construction is planned to begin in July in Turkmenistan. Turkmen workers are going to build the Afghan section of the railway project.
A 75-kilometer rail-line from Afghanistan to Uzbekistan began operating in 2011.
