It has been alleged that the son of the Afghan Army Chief of Staff, General Sher Mohammad Karimi, beat up an Afghan Police officer in Kabul on Sunday night.
The incident took place in the Pul-e-Mohmoud Khan area of Kabul city. The police officer, Mohammad Kabir, claimed that he was beaten when he tried to stop the car of Karimi's son at a checkpoint for search.
The police officer said that Karimi's son was not letting the police search his car; instead called the Afghan National Army soldiers and got him beaten up by ten army soldiers.
"He was the son of Afghan Army Chief of Staff, General Sher Mohammad Karimi. He was accompanied by a second person. Inevitably, they had explosives, suicide vest or maybe they were transporting something illegally that they did not let us search the car and beat me up," Kabir told TOLOnews.
Interviewed in a hospital in Kabul, Kabir showed serious wounds in his head and body. His head was still bleeding two hours after the incident.
In a telephonic conversation with TOLOnews, General Sher Mohammad Karimi rejected the allegations, saying his son was not involved in the incident.
This incident has raised waves of reactions from all across the country.
The Afghan Parliament called for a serious investigation of the incident by the Parliamentary Committee of Defence.
"We want to get the incident investigated by the Parliamentary Committee of Defence and want to see what progress is made in finding out the truth," MP, Shakiba Hashimi said.
"Misuse of government positions has become a culture and we should take serious action against such activities," MP, Ali Ahmad Akhlaqi said.
A number of Kabul residents condemned the incident and sought punishment for the guilty.
"For our security, the police have the right to ask who you are, what are you doing and where are you going," Kabul resident Abdullah told TOLOnews.
In the meantime, military experts said that beating up police personnel cannot be justified in any way.
"No one has the right to physically attack any government employee, be it police or army. The incident should be investigated properly and the guilty should be punished, so that such incidents do not happen again in the future," military expert, General Amrullah Aman told TOLOnews.
The Afghan Interior Ministry has ordered the authorities to investigate the matter.
