A number of volunteers participated in an art project and distributed 10,000 pink balloons to the residents of Kabul on Saturday.

The project, brainchild of a New York based artist Yazmany Arboleda, was aimed at spreading the message of peace in the country and put an end to numerous violations.

The volunteers distributed pink balloons to the residents of Kabul. The volunteer's chanted- "We believe in balloons", while distributing balloons on the Kabul streets.

"Inside each balloon, there is a message on love, friendship and peace. We will select 1001 messages out of the 10,000 messages and publish a book," an organizer of the show Khalid Ahmad Dayani said.

"We selected pink colour for the balloons because it signifies "women". Afghanistan has always faced the problem of gender inequality and this colour will send out the message of protecting women's rights," Zubaida Akbar, one of the organisers said.

The balloons were given to the residents and street workers in Kabul.

"Give this balloon and wish for the end of war in Afghanistan," a volunteer while distributing balloons said.

"We don't want war anymore. We have had enough of everything," a Kabul resident said.

"It is all about staying together and making sense by going beyond language, politics and religion. We all are humans, and this is what brings us closer. Saturday's attack made me quite worried. I called all my volunteers and asked- should we cancel the event? And, every single person who believed in bringing peace back into this country, said no, we must do this, nothing can stop us," Yazmany Arboleda told TOLOnews.

This project was previously organised in India, Japan and Kenya. The project will now move to Colombia, Belgium, United States and Australia as well.
