Following the transition of security responsibility from Isaf to Afghan forces, security in most parts of the eastern province of Kunar has improved, the provincial governor said Sunday.

"Some parts of Kunar province have seen better security conditions. For instance, Pich Valley, which the Americans considered the valley of death, was one of the most insecure parts of the province. But now we call it the valley of life; security in the valley has improved," said Sayed Fazlullah Wahedi, Kunar governor.

Governor Wahedi asked people to cooperate with Afghan forces throughout the second part of the third stage of the transition in Kunar to help attain sustainable security in the province.

Government officials say Kunar, which borders Pakistan, has seen insurgent activity and insecurity. But officials add that insecurity in the province is mostly caused by plans put together across the border in Pakistan.
