The Afghan boxing contingent returned home on Sunday after Reshad Rezaye clenched a bronze and received the title of best boxer of the tournament at the World Series of Boxing competitions in Kazakhstan.
Rezaye beat one Chinese and two Kazakh rivals before he was defeated by another Kazakh boxer.
Rezaye's female teammate Sadaf Rahimi received an honorary bronze medal.
"Because I showed talent and worked hard, I received an honorary bronze medal from the officials of the World Series of Boxing," Rahimi said.
Rahimi, among Afghanistan's leading female boxers, was slated to box at the London Olympics. But officials rescinded her invitation, reportedly citing concerns for her safety arising from the high calibre of the competition.
