The Afghan government has asked the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to lift sanctions against Hizb-e-Islami leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, who forged a peace deal with government early in September.
In response about Hizb-e-Islami's steps after sanctions are lifted against Hekmatyar, a Hizb-e-Islami spokesman, Hashmatullah Arshad, said it will take time but it will happen.
"It takes time. The people will experience the outcome of this big peace in the near future," he said.
Meanwhile, the deputy ambassador of the European Union George Cunningham said they are closely assessing the implementation of the peace deal.
"We are looking currently, at the moment, at the role the European Union may play in the implementation of the Hizb-e-Islami agreement. To play our part as well eventually in an attempt to wean the Taliban away from fighting wars and enter political life in Afghanistan," he said.
Military affairs commentator Jawed Kohistani meanwhile commented on the commitment of Hizb-e-Islami to deliver on its promises it has made in the peace deal.
"The sanctions will not be lifted in the near future unless the Afghan government and the international community see considerable (changes) from Hizb-e-Islami," he added.
