Human rights violations will continue as long as the perpetrators are not brought to justice, acting commissioner at the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission Nader Naderi said.

He said that the country has witnessed plenty of violence and crimes against humanity in the past years and most of those responsible for it have never been prosecuted or punished.

"The situation will not change unless the human rights violators are unpunished. The people should force the government to prosecute the perpetrators," Naderi said in an interview with TOLOnews.

United Nations Human Rights Director Georgette Gagnon said the protection of human rights belongs to both the international community and the Afghan government.

"Both the international community and the government must support the Afghan people and most importantly, the role of women in the peace negotiations shall increase," Gagnon said Monday.
