At least two Kuchi nomads have been injured in a clash with security forces in the Qasaba region in northeastern Kabul on Sunday.

Police said the clash began when security forces went early Sunday morning to the area to drive out the nomads who are squatting in the area.

But the Kuchis said they were given permission to live there.

"A few months ago the Housing Minister brought us here and said to us, 'Live here'," one of the Kuchi men told TOLOnews.

Another said: "Early in the morning the police came saying to us to leave the area, you grabbed the lands. But the minister himself gave us the title to the land."

Urban Development and Housing Minister Hassan Abdullahee told TOLOnews that the ministry allowed the nomads to live in the area temporarily, but now the ministry has asked them to leave.

"We helped them, allowed them to live there but only temporarily. They abused that now and have set up illegal houses," Abdullahee told TOLOnews.

According to official reports, 30 Kuchi families were placed by the Housing Ministry in the area but now some 300 families have set up houses or living quarters there.
