Acting head of the women's affairs department in eastern Laghman province has been shot dead in the street only five months after her predecessor was assassinated, local officials said Monday.
Najia Sediqi was on her way to work Monday morning when gunmen opened fire on her in the Mazoz area of Laghman, provincial spokesman Sarhadi Zhowak said.
"The gunmen started firing on her while she was walking to go to her office," Zhowak said, adding that police are investigating the attack.
No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility.
Sediqi's death comes only five months after the previous Laghman women's affairs director, Hanifa Safi, was killed in July.
Safi was killed in the blast from a magnetic bomb attached to her car. Eleven others, including Safi's husband, were wounded in the explosion.
Laghman province borders with eastern Kunar province in which insurgents have activities and targeting local officials said.
