Azerbaijan is planning to increase its help to Afghanistan in the fight against drugs and the insurgency, and will offer assistance in building Afghan infrastructure, said the deputy foreign minister of Azerbaijan Sunday.

"Regarding the circumstances of our aid, we will consider the priorities first. We will cooperate in fighting the insurgency and drugs, and investments in the sectors of energy and road construction," Araz Azimov said Sunday in a press conference.

 Azimov is currently visiting Afghanistan.

As a sign of strengthening diplomatic ties between the two countries, Afghanistan recently opened an embassy in Azerbaijan.

"To strengthen political relations, we opened an embassy in Baku city of Azerbaijan," said Jawed Ludin, Afghanistan's deputy foreign minister.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Azerbaijan has donated $2 million in the security sector in recent years.
