An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at 15:09:22 GMT on Tuesday, the US Geological Survey said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 51.60 km, was initially determined to be at 36.3227 degrees north latitude and 68.8486 degrees east longitude which was not near any major cities, but shaking was felt in the Afghan capital and eastern parts of the country.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
It comes only a month after a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the same region of the Hindu Kush.
The quake was felt in the capital Kabul and parts of Pakistan.
The earthquake struck late evening at a depth of 115km, some 140km north of Afghanistan's eastern city of Jalalabad and 130km from the neighbouring Pakistan.
The north of Afghanistan is frequently hit by earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountain range.
