The Afghan government approved Sahra Shikeeb as district governor for Khaja Do Koh district in northern Jawizjan province, making her the Karzai regime's first female district governor.
"I am very happy to be given this chance," Shikeeb told TOLOnews Tuesday. "I want to start my work here to help my people in education, health, construction and in other fields."
Shikeeb will start her work officially today, provincial deputy governor Abdul Rahman told TOLOnews Tuesday.
Rahman said that around 40 percent of the province's government workers are women.
Khaja Do Koh district is considered secure in Jawzjan in regards to insurgent activity.
