The death of a 22-year-old woman found hanging in her home in the central Parwan province on Tuesday afternoon is under investigation, local officials said Wednesday.
Provincial spokeswoman Roshan Khalid confirmed the woman, Farzana, was found dead at her home in the Sayed Khil district, but it was not clear if the woman took her own life or was killed.
Farzana's husband is a policeman and is currently on duty in Kabul, south of Parwan province, Khalid added.
Local officials said Farzana's brother-in-law and mother-in-law are being questioned about the death, but some believe it may have been suicide.
The family was very poor and the house had no food or other necessary living facilities, Khalid said.
"The woman known as Farzana was found hanged in the hall of her home. She had two children with no food and other living facilities in her home," Khalid told TOLOnews.
The news comes after the body of a 16-year-old girl was found in Nangarhar province on Monday amid consistent reports of a rise in violence against women.
The Nangarhar girl's death is being treated with suspicion and several of her family members including her father have been detained for questioning.
