One Taliban commander was killed and another was captured in separate joint Afghan and Nato troop operations in Afghanistan, Isaf said on Monday.
Haqiq, a local Taliban leader in the Sherzad district of eastern Nangarhar province, was killed with two others during a security forces operation on Monday.
"After positively identifying the threat, the security force engaged the armed insurgents, killing Haqiq and two additional insurgents. No civilians were harmed during the operation," Isaf said in a statement.
The statement added that Haqiq, also known as Sur Gul Lala, conducted attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. "He controlled a money extortion campaign against the villagers within the district to fund Taliban activities," it said.
The security force also detained three suspected insurgents and seized a cache of weapons, gear and ammunition.
Meanwhile, a Taliban "senior leader" in Baghlan-e Jadid district of northern Baghlan province was captured Monday, Isaf said.
The leader, who was not named, commanded insurgents operating in Jowzjan and Sar-e Pul provinces, it added. He was responsible for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces as well as Afghan civilians in both provinces.
One other insurgent was also captured in the operation, while three others were captured Monday in an operation to capture a third Taliban leader in Daman district, Kandahar province.
