The national football team started a 10-day training session in Kabul on Wednesday to prepare for the upcoming Asian Football Federation Challenge Cup.
The Afghan team comprises of 16 players, including Afghan players living in the US, Sweden, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands. These players will join the team in Dubai for another 10-day training session ahead of the competition, slated to start in two months.
Afghanistan joins Mongolia, Sri Lanka and Laos in group C, and will play Sri Lanka in its first match.
This comes in the heels of Afghanistan's first football premier league, which featured players from eight zones of the country. The league was aimed at promoting football in Afghanistan and choosing the best players to play for the country's national team.
