Two Afghan men in Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) uniforms shot dead two U.S. soldiers on Wednesday in central Kapisa province, officials said.

"Two International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service members died when two individuals wearing Afghan National Security Forces' uniforms shot them in eastern Afghanistan," NATO said in a statement.

More details about the attack were not provided in the statement. However, Kapisa Governor Mehrabudin Safi said the attack happened in the Tagab District.

A self-described Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the Afghan soldiers who killed the Americans were Taliban associates.

There are currently around 34,000 U.S. troops still in Afghanistan helping over 350,000 Afghan security forces fight the Taliban in their last joint fighting season ahead of the 2014 drawdown.
