France Donates $21 Million for Kapisa Projects

On Monday, the Afghan Minister of Finance, Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, announced that the French financial cooperation will help cover a number of important projects, including electricity supplying scheme, agricultural development, and health services in Kapisa province.

Meanwhile, Jean-Michel Marlaud, the French Ambassador to Afghanistan, reaffirmed his country's continuous support to Afghanistan.

The aid would cover Kapisa's electricity system in Mahmood Raqi city, Tagab, and Nejrab districts, also connected to Kabul's electricity network.

Additionally, the aids would cover agricultural development and health services in Kapisa.

"From the total amount of 15.36 million Euro, the Afghan government would contribute 3 million. The money would be spent on electricity supplying scheme in Mahmood Raqi and Nejrab districts in Kapisa province and will help connect them with Kabul electricity network. The program will also connect Tagab Valley to Naghlo power generating dam in the next phase. From the total amount raised by France, 8.6 million euro would be spent on Kapisa electric system, 4.6 million in agriculture sector and rural development, and another 1.7 million euro would be allocated for the health sector in the province," said Zakhilwal.

The French ambassador, Jean Michel Marlaud, stated that modality of the bilateral security agreement between the US and Afghanistan would not undermine French assistance to Afghanistan.

"Signing this agreement is part of the commitments which was agreed upon between France and Afghanistan in 2012. The agreement ratifies implementation of the pledges which France sought to Afghanistan. Our cooperation to Afghanistan would continue," Mr. Marlaud said.

Mr. Marlaud stated that his country's cooperation would continue within the framework of the Afghanistan-France Bilateral Cooperation and that France will support Afghanistan's economic growth and facilitate the access to basic services in Kapisa.
