Residents of the Char Asiab District of Kabul have called on the future government to take the needs and interests of villages more seriously. They said they planned to cast votes in April for the candidate who would best serve their community.
In interviews with TOLOnews, residents expressed their criticisms of the process of Presidential campaigns and showed concerns over the lack of presence any of the candidates have in the District.
The residents have many demands from Afghanistan's future president. Improvement of the agriculture system, employment and construction of health and educational facilities were among their main demands.
Akhtar Gul, who sells fresh fruits in the district, told TOLOnews, "we are going to vote for a person who constructs factories so that people can have better employment opportunities."
Rabiullah, a baker in the district, said that he recognized the importace of the elections, coming the same year as the NATO troop withdraw.
"The country's future depends on the upcoming elections," Rabiullah said. "It is a new page in our life, which is why voting is important."
"Our country has passed years of war that we do not want to repeat," another resident named Mohammad Yaqoub said. "Someone capable of eliminating all our problems should become the President."
Only one out of the eleven candidates has opened an electoral office in the District, despite the residents desire to engage the electoral process.
Char Asiab is an agricultural district of Kabul province with a population of 52,000. Wheat, grain, potato and onions are its main products.
