Already on the ninth day of the Presidential campaigns, residents of the Deh Sabz District of Kabul have yet to familialrize themselves with the candidates and their platforms.

Talking with TOLOnews, less than two months before the vote in April, Deh Sabz residents claimed that most of their neighbors do not know about who the candidates are. They called on the Presidential hopefuls to take more initiative in outreach to small and remote communities in Afghanistan.

Still, some District residents have registered to vote and are planning on participating in the historic elections.

"I've got a voting card," a resident said. "We only watch candidates' advertisements on TV, but nobody came here and we don't know about them."

The Presidential hopefuls have been encouraged to focus on policy issues during their campaigns, and stay away from divisive issues like ethnicity and language. Although the campaigns have been highly active in Kabul, most of the candidates have not been able to make it beyond the capital so far.

A resident of Deh Sabz named Shah Wali said that he has not yet decided who to vote for.

"The candidates should come here and tell their plans to the people," he said. "We have to know about their plans and to know what they are going to do for Afghanistan's future."

Another resident, Samandar, a 72 years old man, told TOLOnews reporter that his major concern heading into the elections is unemployement. What candidate best proposes to address the issue would win his favor.

Deh Sabz occupies about 18 kilo meters of Kabul, and is home to about 45 villages with some 50,000 people living in the District.
