Seven days into the Presidential campaigns, Presidential candidate Daoud Sultanzoy met in Kabul with a number of residents from different provinces, emphasizing that rule of law and combatting corruption would be top priorities for his administration.
"The major problem in Afghanistan is the absence of rule of law, along with corruption, poverty and other challenges," Sultanzoy said. "If rule of law is established, many problems in the country will be resolved."
Mr. Sultanzoy claimed that due to widespread corruption in the country the majority of the government's budget is wasted.
"Annually, 4 billion USD of government income is lost due to corruption, which is harmful to the Afghan economy," he said.
Sultanzoy closed out his speech by saying that a government more responsive to the needs of the people would not only unify the people with their government but it would also resolve many of the present challenges facing Afghanistan.
