As the Presidential campaigns head into their second week, a number of Kabul residents on Saturday urged the Presidential hopefuls to take their shows on the road, and travel to other provinces to engage a wider swath of Afghan society than they have so far.

"Whoever wants to nominate himself should go to the provinces and show his competence," one resident of the capital said.

"It is the right of each Afghan to know about the plans of the candidates and their the plans for the fate of Afghanistan," another resident said.

Since the start of Presidential campaigns last Sunday, only Kabul has really been exposed to the major campaigning efforts of the 11 candidates. Over the course of the past week, the candidates have worked to publicize themselves and their platforms to crowds in the capital.

"The earliness of peace has a link to economic development, destroying of poverty and unemployment," Presidential candidate Qayoum Karzai said about his policy priorities.

"All the Afghan citizens should believe that they are part of the future government," candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai said.

The candidates have been encouraged by a number of groups to focus on policy issues and to steer away from making their campaign about ethnicit, linguage or region.

"The issue of agriculture is a basic one as millions of Afghans are busy with agriculture, yet the issue of agriculture is ignored," Presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah said.

"I ask President Karzai to sign the agreement that is the wish of the people and society," Gul Agha Sherzai said of the Kabul-Washington Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA).

Despite security officials assuring that all the necessary precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of the candidates as they travel around the country, no such traveling has yet to take place.

Provinces like Helmand have been isolated from all the campaign flurry this week, but are eager to be involved.

"God willing, we are fully ready and the campaigns will get more," Helmand Police Chief Mohammad Hakim Angar said.

The Presidential campaigns started on February 2 and will continue through April 2, while the Provincial Council candidates will be be allowed to start their election campaigns on March 4 and continue through April 2.
