Seven insurgents were arrested in joint Afghan security forces in Lalpur district of eastern Nangarhar province, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Saturday.
"In past 24 hours, Afghan National Police conducted an anti-terrorism joint operation with Afghan National Army and National Directorate of Security (NDS) to clean some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan," the statement read.
"Also, during this operation, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated five AK-47 rifles and one vehicle," it said.
Last week, at least 30 Taliban insurgents were arrested in an Afghan security forces operation in Chaparhar district of the province as a result of a 10-day operation, the ministry said.
The Taliban has not commented on the operations yet.
There are over 350,000 Afghan soldiers serving at the moment. Foreign troops are due to leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014, after handing over full security responsibility to the Afghan forces.
