Senators on Sunday criticized the government's foreign policy after reports surfaced that several Afghan citizens were badly beaten and their travel documents were ripped in Pakistan recently.
They criticized government inaction over the abuse and pointed to Pakistan's immediate closure of the Torkham border after several Pakistani truck drivers were reportedly abused near Kabul.
According to reports, more than a dozen Afghans were stopped and beaten by unknown gunmen and their passports were torn in Landi Kotal near Peshawar.
"Pakistan is making the Afghan government its toy. We all witness that after several Pakistani workers complained, Pakistan closed the border for several hours, causing the [freezing to] death of eight children," Senator Belqis Roshan said.
"Iran and Pakistan are benefiting from Afghanistan's weak foreign policy. The foreign ministry does not have a clear policy towards Pakistan," Senator Farida Kochi claimed.
Senators criticized Afghan politicians and security officials for not taking proper and necessary action after the harassment of Afghan citizens abroad.
"We discussed the issue with the foreign and interior ministries to pursue the issues, but they have kept silent. Silence is not the solution," First Vice Chairperson of the Afghan Senate Mohammad Alam Ezedyar said.
