Afghanistan's imports decreased in the second quarter of the year compared to the first quarter, while exports increased, Afghanistan's Central Statistic Organization (CSO) announced on Monday.

According to the CSO, the statistics show that the country can produce most of the goods it now imports, especially with greater investment in such fields, resulting in a positive trade balance for the country.

In the second quarter of this year, Afghanistan imported $2.34 billion worth of goods, compared to $2.6 billion in the first three months.

The statistics shows that Afghanistan has imported $377 million of petroleum, $185.7 million of metal wares, $105.5 million of cement and $95.38 million oil and other goods in second three months of the year.

"Only machinery and transport that we have imported are double our exports, there are only $234.7 million worth of luxury cars and machinery that we have imported," said CSO Deputy Chief Hassibullah Mowahad.

The statistics also show that Afghanistan had around $122.3 million exports in second three months of this year which shows a 6.5 per cent increase compared to the first three months of the year.

According to the statistics of the CSO, in second three months of the year exports of dry fruits, medicinal herbs, carpet and cotton increased compared to first three months of the same year.
