Two police were killed and 21 others including three women and three children were injured when a Taliban suicide bomber struck a police bus in Kabul Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The incident occurred at 15:45 local time in the Afghan capital's 9th district, Kabul Police Chief Gen. Zahir Zahir told TOLOnews.
The incident is the first suicide attack in Kabul this winter.
The bomber was on a bicycle and detonated his explosives when the bus was taking the police personnel home from work, Gen Zahir said.
"A number of civilians passing by have also have sustained light injuries in the attack," the police chief added.
The area has been cordoned off and security agencies have begun their initial investigations, said TOLOnews reporter Sharif Amiry who is at the blast scene.
The victims have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The blast is the second terrorist act in the Afghan capital in a week after a bomb attached to a Nato vehicle was set off inside a Nato military training house.
