Three insurgents were killed and two were injured during a series of coordinated operations over the past 24 hours carried out by the Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS), the Afghan Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Saturday.
Ten other insurgents were arrested in the operations.
The operations led by Afghan forces intensify across the country as Afghanistan is moving closer to the elections in less than three months.
The operations were conducted in Nangarhar, Laghman and Kandahar provinces.
"Also, during these operations, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated light and heavy rounds ammunition and IEDs," it said.
The statement did not report any casualties amongst the Afghan forces or local civilians.
There are over 350,000 Afghan soldiers serving at the moment. Foreign troops are due to leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014, after handing over full security responsibility to the Afghan forces.
