Abdul Ghafoor, the father of the Helmand female child suicide bomber named Spozhmai, said on Thursday that his son serves as a Taliban commander and the group would gun down he and his daughter if they are found.

This comes after President Hamid Karzai asked security officials to handover the child to her parents after they made certain assurances. But the small girl believed to be only nine or 10 years has refused to return home.

"I want the government to provide me protection, I don't want to return home," Spozhmai told TOLOnews.

The Afghan security forces arrested the girl a week ago in southern Helmand province wearing a suicide bomber's vest that was reportedly forced upon her by her brother.

Spozhami's father went to see her after watching the media reports about his daughter.

A former farmer in the southern city of Ghazni, eight years ago Ghafoor moved his family to Helmand.

"I swear upon Allah that our lives were in danger, I can't protect my daughter, my son who is also a Taliban commander won't let us live in peace," he said.

Ghafoor admitted that the brother had forced his daughter to wear the suicide vest and conduct an attack on an Afghan Border Police force.

The father has urged the Afghan government to facilitate his family's resettlement in the Muqur district of Ghazni province.

The Helmand Governor's office has said that it will take the final decision on whether to handover the child to her family after investigations are completed.
