Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday said that Pakistan, Afghanistan and India had no option other than becoming good friends. He added that President Hamid Karzai had agreed not to let his country to be used against Pakistan.
In an interview to the Turkish media, Sharif said that neighbours could not be changed. Pakistan, Afghanistan and India only had the option of living like good friends, he said.
Sharif said it had been agreed with Karzai that the two countries would not allow their land to be used against each other and better relations among Pakistan, Afghanistan and India were essential for peace and prosperity of the region.
He stated that bringing normalcy in the Afghans- Pakistan ties and considering terrorists as 'mutual enemies' was essential for elimination of extremism.
He said that Pakistan had a vibrant economy offering investment-friendly climate to investors.
Last week, a Pakistani Parliamentary delegation in Kabul to meet with the Afghan Parliament suggested that the stability and peace of Afghanistan was in the interests of Pakistan, and that Kabul should go ahead with the security pact with the U.S. if it will contribute.
Officials in Kabul have been busy negotiating the signing of the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the U.S., which would ensure foreign troops stay in Afgahnistan after the NATO combat mission ends in 2014 and that Washington's aid money continues to flow.
A Loya Jirga approved the BSA last month, and voted in favor of Karzai signing the accord before the end of the year.
Member of the Pakistani delegation Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao expressed his support for Afghanistan's decision on the BSA, and its right to sign such an agreement.
Kabul has always criticised Islamabad for not pursuing sincere and truthful policies towards Afghanistan.
It is believed that Pakistan maintains a crucial influence over the armed insurgents in Afghanistan and Kabul has faith that Islamabad retains the ability to kickstart peace negotiations.
