Janan Mosazai, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Sunday said that the draft of the Friendship and Cooperation Pact between Kabul and Tehran would be ready soon for signing.
He added that the foreign ministers of both countries are trying to finalize the draft of the pact soon.
"The friendship and cooperation agreement will include the cooperation of Kabul and Tehran in politics, economics, cultural and security," Mosazai said.
He also said that an Islamic University would be established in Kabul soon with support of the Islamic Cooperation Organisation.
"International Islamic University of Kabul will be the fourth Islamic university established with the support of the Islamic Cooperation Organization and Islamic Development Bank," he added.
So far the Islamic University has campuses n Pakistan, Bangladesh and Malaysia.
In a recent visit to Tehran, President Hamid Karzai met with the Iranian leaders to discuss economic, political and security relations between the two countries. The two Presidents agreed to sign a Friendship and Cooperation Pact in the near future during that trip.
The announcement comes as negotiations between Kabul and Washington over the BIlateral Security Agreement (BSA) remain unfinalized. The fate of the BSA remains fully in question after President Karzai refused to sign it until the April elections, and the U.S. meets new preconditions.
Many experts have said that a shift away from the U.S. and toward neighboring Iran could be a major policy shift for Kabul, and could have dire counsequences in shaping Afghanistan's position on the world stage.
