Lawmakers criticized Tuesday the heavy use of Hesco barriers and protective concrete slabs by companies, offices and foreign organizations in Kabul, asking the government to enforce a presidential decree to remove the barriers from main roads and sidewalks to ease traffic flow.
"They should obey the laws and fully enforce the president's decree. Some warlords and high-ranking government officials are increasing these blockages. It's humiliating to other residents," Kabul MP Shukria Barekzai said.
Many of the city's main roads are blocked with guard posts and barriers by both governmental and non-governmental organizations to ensure their security measures.
These blockages has exacerbated Kabul's notorious traffic in recent years, causing bottlenecks and long traffic jams.
