Two civilians were killed and one other injured by a roadside bomb blast in southern Kandahar province early Monday, local officials reported.

The incident took place in Arghistan District, when a tractor struck a roadside bomb, said the provincial Governor's spokesman Jawid Faisal.

"Two were killed, a father and his son, and another son of this man was injured in the blast. The victims have been taken to a nearby hospital," he said.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the bomb.

It comes a day after an Afghan soldier was killed and three others were injured by a roadside bomb in Khariz District of Kandahar.

Although insurgents are said to use concealed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) alongside roads throughout the coutnry in order to target convoys of Afghan and coalition forces, often the indiscriminate explosives result in civilian loss of life.

IEDs, like the bomb on Monday, caused over a third of civilian casualties in the first six months of 2013, according to a UN report.
