At a special ceremony organized by the Afghanistan Youth Democratic Organisation (AYDO) in Kabul city on Friday, several high-ranking government officials and politicians offered tribute to Dr. Mohammad Najibullah Ahmadzai, the former President of Afghanistan, for his services to Afghanistan before being publicly executed along with his brother in 1996.
The attendees stated that the execution of Dr. Najib was planned well in advance by the Pakistani ISI, with the beginning of the Taliban regime. They blamed the ISI and Taliban for killing the former President of Afghanistan.
Additionally, the participants urged the United Nations (UN) to investigate the case and come out with a report. They expressed their disagreement over the silence maintained by the UN over the killings.
Several participants criticized Pakistan, calling it Afghanistan's "enemy." They accused the Pakistan of not letting the Mujahidin and Dr. Najib to negotiate for bringing peace into Afghanistan.
Several members of the Watan Party (WP), who were also present at the ceremony emphasized on the importance of the 2014 elections, Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA), and withdrawal of foreign troops from the country, for a bright future of the country.
The former members of Najibullah's government said that Dr. Najib's only goal was to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a warzone of the superpowers and bring back peace into the country.
