President Hamid Karzai on Sunday held a consultative meeting with the political parties and several jihadi leaders and decided to hold a funeral ceremony for the 5,000 Afghans who were killed during the reign of Nur Muhammad Taraki and Hafizullah Amin on September 30th across the country.

The decision was taken after an Afghan Daily- "8 Sobh" (8am), recently published a list of 5,000 Afghans who were killed during the reign of Nur Muhammad Taraki and Hafizullah Amin. The Presidency released a statement saying that Afghanistan's flag would be flown at half-mast for two days on September 30th and October 1st.

The Senators on Sunday urged the government to prosecute those who were responsible for killing thousands of innocent Afghans during the reign of the Communist government. The Senators criticized the government for not prosecuting the killers.

"Those oppressors are now holding high posts and some are even working within the government. They are working as Ministers, Directors, Governors and Ambassadors. They should be asked to step down and be severely punished," said Senator Bismillah Afghanmal.

"According to the law, those who are responsible for the killings, should be punished severely," said Mohammad Alam Ezidya, the Deputy Speaker of the Senate.

Several Senators said that a number of Afghans were killed under the Mujahidin and Taliban regimes, after the collapse of the Communists' government. They pressed for the prosecution of the murderers and said that they should be immediately removed from the offices or posts they currently hold.

The list of the deceased which was published by "8 Sobh," has received mixed reactions from different segments of the Afghan society.
