Gul Rahman Qazi, the Director of the Commission for Overseeing the Implementation of the Constitution (COIC), on Wednesday announced that numerous steps have been taken to improve the conditions of prisons across the country.

Mr. Qazi stressed that efforts have been made to provide better learning and vocational training facilities to the prisoners. The officials of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that the move would affect over 28,000 prisoners across the country.
“Providing learning facilities and improving living conditions of the detainees are among the priorities, and we hope that a special university for the prisoners will be set-up in the future,” Mr. Qazi said.
Meanwhile, Syed Noorullah Sadat, the head of the Court for Investigation of Crimes Against National Security, assured that all prisoners would be treated equally, in accordance with the prevailing laws. Mr. Sadat assured the participants at the meeting that no prisoner has been released before the completion of the sentence or without any courts’ explicit order.
“All detainees would be treated equally, in accordance with the prevailing laws of the country. There is no evidence of unlawful releases of prisoners. When a prisoner commits a crime after being released, then we have special laws for them,” Mr. Sadat said.
