Local officials said that a suicide bomber detonated his explosive near the New Kabul Bank branch in southern Kandahar province early Saturday, killing six people and injuring 22 others, including five policemen.
The incident took place in Kandahar city. Jawid Faisal, the Spokesman for the Provincial Govenor, said that the assailant detonated his explosives in a crowded area bustling with civilian activity.
"The target of the bomber was unclear, but he detonated his explosive near the New Kabul Bank branch which meant most of the victims were civilians," he said.
Details regarding the individuals killed in the attack were unavailable. However, security officials said the injured were rushed to the nearby hospital.
The area was immediately blocked off from traffic by security forces. Police have begun their investigation into the attack.
No group has yet claimed responsibility.
