Afghan Ministry of Mines on Thursday said that the country has half trillion cubic metre of liquid gas reserves. The reserves could also be more than the estimates but it will be clear only after proper assessments are made by geologists.

Meanwhile, the Compressed Natural Gas officials said that if this reserve is used only for vehicles it will be sufficient for hundred years.

In addition to the Yatem Taq and Khuwaja Gogerdak gas fields in Jowezjan province, other gas fields in the Helmand, Kundoz and Herat provinces can meet Afghanistan's natural gas requirements in the long term.

Officials of this Department highlighted the importance of natural gas in producing thermal power and as a rich source of fuel for vehicles.

Fazul Ahmad Rahil Head of Compressed Natural Gas said, "We have plenty of gas resources and in order to properly utilise these reserves we have made plans and strategies."

The advantages of using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in vehicles and generators is that it does not pollute the environment and has low consumption cost.

Compressed Natural Gas officials said that efforts are being made to set up more natural gas process stations for better utilisation of the natural gas reserves.
