At least 20 insurgents were killed and 19 injured in eastern Nangarhar and Kapisa provinces, local security officials said Tuesday.
The 201 Selab Military Corps said that operations were held in the Bati Kot District of Nangarhar and Tagab District of Kapisa to clear the areas from insurgents.
The Commander of 201 Selab Military Corps Gen. Mohammad Zaman Waziri said that Operation Oqab (Eagle) was held in Bati Kot District after calls from its residents to clear the area of insurgents.
Security forces also detained around 70 people for suspicious activities and seized weapons and explosive materials during the week-long operation.
"The detained people include several local Taliban commanders. This is a big achievement for security forces," Waziri said.
Taliban commanders Mawlawi Abdulrahman and Bilal are among those detained in the clearing operation, Nangarhar Provincial Governor Gul Agha Sherzai said.
"We had big achievements. Tens of insurgents, including several Taliban leaders, were detained. We also seized weapons," he added.
The governor added that security forces and civilians did not sustain any causalities in the operation.
