The Chairperson of Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), Dr. Sima Samar on Thursday while attending the eleventh foundation anniversary of the Independent Human Rights Commission in western Herat province, criticized the functioning of the High Peace Council.
Talking at the ceremony she said that there are controversial ideas in the minds of the High Peace Council members and they do not believe in peace. Due to this it becomes difficult to bring peace in the country.
She said that first the thinking of the members of the High Peace Council regarding peace should be reformed.
These comments came in after Sima Samar had previously blamed the High Peace Council members of keeping their personal interests in the forefront.
"Unfortunately, I do not believe that all members of the High Peace Council have one idea, some of them do not believe in bringing peace within the country and this has raised our concerns," Sima Samar said.
Meanwhile, the Chairwoman of AIHRC asked the Parliament to approve the Law on Elimination of Violence Against Women (EVAW) without any amendment.
She said that the MPs should believe on the principle of 'equality'.
"Human Rights Independent Commission believes in equality and we strictly ask the National Assembly to approve the Law on Elimination of Violence Against Women without any amendment," Samar Said.
The eleventh establishment anniversary celebration of the Independent Human Rights Commission was attended by the Chairperson of the Commission and Herat province's local officials. The guests praised the efforts put in by the Commission over the last decade.
