Two Nato soldiers were killed in a suicide bombing early Monday in the eastern Paktia province, which also claimed the lives of 10 children and an Afghan police officer, the International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) said.

Nearly 16 others including a police officer were injured in the attack.

"Two Isaf service members were killed when a vehicle laden with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was blown up on. The attack also killed and wounded several Afghan civilians," the Isaf said in a statement.

The Isaf did not provide more details. However, the local officials said the killed soldiers were US nationals.

The Paktia province shares its border with Pakistan. Taking advantage of it, the insurgents have been frequently targeting the Afghan and Nato troops.

The deaths raises the number of US soldiers killed in the Afghan war this year to 60.

The foreign troops in Afghanistan are scheduled to leave by the end of next year, after this, the Afghan security forces will take over full security responsibility of the country.

There are around 66,000 US troops in Afghanistan helping over 300,000 Afghan security forces fight insurgency.
