The officials of the Afghan Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Saturday expressed their concerns over the lack of women's participation in the voter's registration process.
In the past five days, only 2,000 women have been registered across the country, according to officials.
The officials said only 15 percent of the women have participated in the process, which is very less.
"The number of women registered is very low," said the Head of Helmand's voter's registration center, Abdul Hadi.
"We had expected that a large number of women will participate in the upcoming election, which will be good, but we have registered very less number of women," said the Head of Nangarhar's voter's registration center, Daoud.
Meanwhile, the IEC Spokesman Noor Mohammad Noor said that the Commission had expected that nearly 40 percent of women would participate in the upcoming elections.
"The Commission has a goal and we expected that 40 percent of women would participate in the upcoming elections. We will provide more facilities so that more people including the women participate in the election process," he said.
More than 13,579 Afghan citizens across the country got their voter card in the past five days of the registration process, according to the officials.
The Commission has opened 41 voter's registration centres across the country.
Meanwhile, a resident criticised the IEC over lack of voter's registration centres in the provinces.
"The main problem for the women is the lack of registration centres and it's so far. They (Commission) should increase the advertising so that people are made aware about all the developments," said Ahmad, a resident of Herat province.
The comments come in at a time when a number of political parties and the Chairman of the High Peace Council, Salahuddin Rabbani have urged people to actively participate in the upcoming elections.
"I am asking the people to get their voter card and bring a change in the country," said Salahuddin Rabbani.
"A massive participation by the people, can rescue Afghanistan from crisis," the Head of National Coalition Party, Abdullah Abdullah said.
Afghanistan's presidential election will be held on April 5, 2014, which is one of the most important events for the country.
