Persident Hamid Karzai and Hungarian President János Áder discussed mutual areas of cooperation, including natural resource extraction and environmental protection, in Kabul on Monday, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.

President János Áder offered assistance to Afghanistan in various fields, particularly in the extraction of natural resources, the Palace statement said, adding that President Áder also offered technical assistance in protecting the environment and minimizing the side-effects of mining.

President Karzai extended his gratitude to Hungary for its continuous support to Afghanistan and hoped the assistance would continue, the statement said.

More than 500 Hungarian soldiers have been in Afghanistan since 2003, most of them based in Pul-i-Khumri, the capital of northern Baghlan province. Seven Hungarian soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan.
