Hairatan harbor officials on Saturday said that the harbor's import data showed a 46 percent decline in the month of March this year compared to last year. On the other hand, the exports data showed an increase of 67 percent.
Head of Hairatan Harbor Services Office, Mohammad Yaqub Zazai said that in March this year, imports from Hairatan harbor went beyond 73,000 tonnes.
According to the Head of Hairatan Harbor Services Office, disappearance of commercial goods in the border areas and the increase of fare on imported goods are the reasons that have caused a decline in the imports.
"A number of our goods go missing across the border. To support this claim, we have official documents in our possession," Mohammad Yaqub Zazai told TOLOnews.
On the other hand, Hairatan Harbor officials said that this year exports from this port have increased by 67 percent.
Meanwhile, one of the raisins exporters has requested the Government for customs and tariff exemptions, so that it boosts exports.
"Other countries give some kind of tariff and customs exemptions for its exports; but here in Afghanistan we don't have any such law," Ahmad, a trader told TOLOnews.
