A number of university students in Kabul demonstrated against the Elimination of Violation Against Women (EVAW) Law on Wednesday.

The demonstrators, who shut the doors of Kabul University, said that some articles in the EVAW law are against the Quran and we refute the law.

The students refused to talk in front of media and threatened some of the journalists.

Meanwhile, a number of religious scholars at a gathering in Jalalabad expressed their objection to the law.

The religious scholars said that some articles in the law are against Islamic regulations.

"This law should be dropped. A new law should be made which is in accordance with the Islamic Sharia law," Qari Mirza, a religious scholar said.

"If the law is approved by the Parliament, the religious scholars will not stay silent and will take it up to the judicial level," religious scholar Abdul Basir Basirat said.

These reactions come in at a time when the EVAW Law was rejected by the Parliament, provoking criticism from the residents of Kabul and other provinces in the country.

The demonstrators warned that if the Parliament does not review the articles in the law, it will face serious protests put up by the religious scholars.
