A Haqqani leader and four other insurgents were arrested during an operation by Afghan and coalition security forces in Gardez district of the Paktiya province on Sunday, ISAF said in its statement.
The arrested leader is responsible to direct and execute attacks targeted at the Afghan and coalition forces in the Gardez district. He is also a known Improvised Explosive Device (IED) expert and distributed IEDs to various insurgent cells in his local area.
The security forces also seized two bolt-action rifles and one AK-47 during the operation.
In a separate operation carried out in the Khugyani district of Nangarhar province a group of coalition security forces while on a senior Taliban leader's hunt arrested five insurgents on Sunday.
The senior Taliban leader carries out a wide range of insurgent activities. He oversees a group of insurgent fighters involved in ambushes, IED operations and complex attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The leader also facilitated the safe passage of weapons in various districts of Nangarhar province and serves as an intelligence operative for senior Taliban officials.
The coalition forces in collaboration with the Afghan forces are trying their best to crackdown on insurgency in Afghanistan before the foreign troops wrap up their missions in the country.
